Expert: Pirated software to prevent firms from mending flaws

MOSCOW, Feb 1 (PRIME) -- The Russian companies that will use pirated software if it is legalized will not be able to update the programs needed to uncover and fix vulnerabilities, while the illegal updates will enable perpetrators to hack devices, Vladimir Zykov, head of the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers, said late on Tuesday.

“The use of pirated software means that the company will not be able to install updates that improve various vulnerabilities. Installing pirated updates means running serious risks,” Zykov said.

“These updates can hide dangerous injections, scripts, codes that will enable fraudsters to penetrate your devices, your computer, steal personal information and passwords.”

The exploitation of pirated software will hurt national developers of analogues badly, he added.

Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev earlier suggested the rules of using Western intellectual property without license adopting as countersanctions and thanked those who developed such programs, calling it the pirated use “in the regime of personal sanctions.”
